This project investigates the mechanisms that people use for managing switching between multiple social media accounts. Our research questions what the technical practices involved are, and what they reveal about established industry norms and support for switching between multiple accounts.
We’ve found that platforms often provide a one-size-fits-all approach to account switching, which is in tension with user desires for both more and less permeability between accounts. Drawing from our findings, we aim to develop potential options for researchers and designers for understanding and supporting more varied forms of account switching technologies.
